WELCOME TO SUMMERLIN
Summerlin is a master-planned community located on the western rim of Las Vegas Valley, with the Red Rock Canyon and the Spring Mountains as its natural boundaries. Parts of Summerlin are located either within the City of Las Vegas or Clark County. The world-famous Las Vegas Strip is approximately 20 to 25 minutes east of the community.
Touted as one of the largest master-planned communities in Nevada, Summerlin covers a staggering 22,500+ acres of land, including Summerlin South (a census-designated place) and over 20 residential villages.
Parks, public and private schools, and an array of retail and recreational facilities are also located within Summerlin. In 2023, Summerlin ranked fourth in the nation when it comes to top-selling master plans.
Summerlin: Past and present
Summerlin is part of a massive 25,000-acre parcel purchased by business magnate and aviator Howard Hughes in the 1950s. It was named after Jean Amelia Summerlin, his grandmother. The land remained undeveloped until the late 1980s, when The Howard Hughes Corporation unveiled plans for an exceptional master-planned community. By 1990, Summerlin already had its first village, school, and park.
Since the project broke ground in the 1990s, Summerlin has grown to a community of approximately 100,000 residents. One of its more recent developments is the 400-acre Downtown Summerlin district, which opened in 2014. To date, Summerlin still has thousands of acres left to be shaped into world-class amenities.
